These are pieces of prefabricated concrete used for covering various sized tunnels excavated using shields. The covering is made up of a series of consecutive segmented rings, and the geometry of the segment changes depending if the rings are for straights or bends (tapered rings). Not all the segments of each ring have the same shape, generally 4 types exist; base invert segments, normal segments, counter key segments that are adjacent to the key segment which is the last type. Inimitable universal and hexagonal segments also exist (arranged in a honeycomb panel).
