The rotary heading machine is a roadheader excavating machine that, by means of a rotary head with friction picks, works on the rock extracting small fragments from it. The head is fixed to an adjustable arm so that it can reach all areas of the excavation face and exert hydraulic pressure on it. The rotary heading machine has a rubble collection and transportation system and an automotive chassis on treads. The picks are of various shapes and sizes, thick ones for rock and finer ones for soft ground.
