This is an excavating machine for small section tunnels or galleries that are mainly used for services, which avoids the opening of trenches and the inconveniences that this causes. There are two main types: those that work using the tube pushing technique, suitable for excavating diameters of more than one metre and that allow workers to be present in the galleries, and the microtunnel type. In both cases, the excavation face is occupied by a shield that advances by an impulse being exerted on the lining using hydraulic jacks.
