Horizontal or reduced incline channels, that in underground works or mining are a result of the heading work, which are connected between each other and/or with the shafts or with the outside. The gallery allows the entrance and exit of workers, equipment, excavating material and/or air for ventilation. Depending on its purpose it will be equipped with lifting gear, ventilation and other items. The ramp sections that make up part of the galleries are also considered as galleries. Tunnels can be considered as specific parts of non-mining galleries which are not accompanied by other galleries, except in the case of bent tunnels or transverse auxiliary galleries.
