Borehole

These are the holes that contain the explosive material for drilling and blasting excavation methods of underground works. They are drilled the same length as the heading required for each firing with an additional 5-10% increment as there are always losses, using manual or jumbo borehole drilling equipment. The hole's heading plan direction can be horizontal, typical of the front stope, or sub-vertical or bench stope as found in quarries. The holes drilled for bolting, drainage, ground compaction, mountain mass swelling, anchors and instrumentation are also known as boreholes.
