Underground works mean the development of underground space for infrastructures and equipment, for example power stations, deposits, enclosures and other elements. Tunnels are emphasised as transport infrastructures for roads, railways, tubes, supply and sanitation pipes or service galleries; in this case, the tunnel seems to be the solution to mountain mass obstacles, water courses (as in the English Channel) or buildings in town areas. The main characteristic of the underground works is that they are produced in a geological environment whose depth knowledge is always limited.
