Special foundations

These are necessary when the supporting ground of a structure does not meet the necessary mechanical characteristics and is not sufficient enough to support a superficial foundation. Three solutions for this are looked at: the substitution of the ground with another that has been selected beforehand, compacting it until it reaches the characteristics required; deep foundation, transferring the loads to competent deep soil horizons going through the insufficiently resistant strata; and treating the ground to improve its mechanical characteristics, increasing its compactness and reducing its cavity content, ground drainage being necessary beforehand.
