Metamorphic rocks are those coming from igneous, sedimentary or pre-existing metamorphic rocks that have gone through a metamorphism process. This definition excludes the changes caused by surface weathering and partial fusion which is produced at higher temperatures than those by metamorphism.
Slate, shale, mica schist, gneiss and marbles are all metamorphic rocks.
