This test allows one to know the optimum binder (bitumen) content in hot bituminous mixtures (HBM).
Four cylindrical test tubes of the same bitumen content are broken for each series, an asphalt mixture compressed with 75 mallet strikes on each side, introducing the test tubes into a water bath at a temperature of 60ºC during half an hour and at a deformation rate of 50,8 mm/minute.
Five graphs are given, depending on the bitumen's contents, representing the variation of: relative density, aggregate and mixture void content, stability and deformation.
