The gradient links the distance travelled between a distance's origin throughout the whole horizontal alignment, with an elevation above a certain comparison plane.
Gradients are classified as follows depending on how the longitudinal inclination varies:
- Uniform gradient: the inclination is constant.
- Vertical agreement: between the entrance and exit tangents of the adjacent sections, the inclination varies with the distance.
