This is the total number of vehicles during a year that travel on a transversal section of the road divided by 365 (the days in a year), or also the number of vehicles that travel on a section of the road in 24 hours on an average day in the year. It is also called D.A.I.
It is used to know the country's, area's, road's or section's traffic total, to prepare traffic statistics, to define the importance of the road and compare traffic with other scales that determine the traffic category like the D.A.I. of heavy vehicles, all necessary to design the section's pavement.
