Reinforced sheathing

This is the distance between the outer surface of the concrete and the outer surface of the reinforcing bars (including column ties and stirrups) of a piece of reinforced concrete. Sheathing is essential to the durability of the reinforced concrete because it protects the reinforcing bars against corrosion. The EHE regulation (Spanish regulation for standard concrete) specifies minimum sheathing for steel bars in accordance with exterior conditions and environment. In the construction phase, sheathings are safeguarded by means of separators.
