Longitudinal reinforcements

In vertical structural elements, longitudinal reinforcing bars are used as an aid to resisting the compacting to which the columns are subjected, as well as other forces which produce buckling in very thin pieces. The reinforcing bars must comprise at least four bars arranged along each column corner. For round columns, a minimum of six longitudinal bars are required. In horizontal structural elements the reinforcing bars are used to resist the traction forces and are arranged in the tractioned area of the piece. They are also used to resist compacting forces, with longitudinal bars placed on the compacted side.
