Cement blocks

A prefabricated element made from a type of small-aggregate cement mortar, which consists of a rectangular box-shaped conglomerate featuring two large gaps perpendicular to the bedding plane. It allows for bigger than normal ceramic pieces which are relatively lightweight. It has become widely-used in industrial buildings due to the fact that it is easy to affix. Its design allows for concrete reinforcement and refill, facilitating its use in loadbearing walls, for low loadbearing buildings and certain sections of contention walls. Normally concrete blocks are covered, but they do come in different finishes, meaning that they can be used without covering. The most common size is 40 x 20 cm.
