This is a measure to stabilise embankments, involving the installation of resistant elements to increase the tangential forces of friction on the broken surface. The operation is normally executed using anchorages and bolts.
They are classified as passive (the anchorage starts to take effect on movement of the block or the land mass), active (on installation, the anchorage applies tension up to its admissible load) or mixed (the anchorage tenses under a load lower than its admissible load).
