A contention wall comprising appropriately placed and interlocked blocks of gabions to support or protect embankment slopes.
Each gabion is a prismatic-shaped metallic box with a rectangular base, made of galvanized-steel hexagonal-mesh wire netting, and filled with natural gravel or gravel from crushing. Features:
- Tensile strength of the steel mesh wire netting: from 420 to 550 MPa.
- Mesh openings: between 5 x 7 cm and 8 x 10 cm.
- Minimum diameter of the steel: 2 mm.
- Even stone to be used of between 10 to 20 cm in size.
