A solid earth structure created by the spreading and compaction by means of layering using soils from excavations, or otherwise obtained, for covered areas, in such a way that they generally allow the extended use of transport machinery and high performance compacting. They are constructed of earth type materials, with maximum sizes generally lower than 100-150 mm and a low content of fine soil. Their construction includes the following operations:
- Preparation of the base surface of the embankment.
- Spreading of a layer.
- Humidifying or drying out of a layer.
- Compacting of a layer.
