Total station

It is one of the most modern optical-electrical topographic instruments, which works using electronic technology. It features: an alphanumeric liquid crystal screen, independently illuminated by solar light, a calculator, distance meter, tracker (a trajectory marker) and the possibility of saving information in electronic format. Generically, they are called total stations because they have the capacity to measure angles, distances and levels, which previously required different instruments. The angle precision is 1? (varies depending on the make and model); the distance meter enables distances in the order of one kilometre to be measured with a precision in millimetres, and has functions to export data directly to ?CAD' programs.
