The gradient is the theoretical line that is projected in the space for a linear work. Specifically, in a road trace, it is the spot height of the projected level area, which does not normally coincide with the spot height of the land, meaning that levelling or embankment work will have to be carried out. The gradients are represented by straight horizontal or sloping lines which, as they have a different slope, are joined using vertical curves that are normally geometrically defined parabola sections, giving continuity to the different straight lines.
