Lead piping

Lead piping is being substituted due to the release of tiny lead particles into water, which are dangerous for health, the chemical reaction between the piping and disinfecting chlorides in the water, and expensive installation costs. They are currently used to collect rainwater, for plumbing networks and for connections to existent piping. Lead is soft and malleable, offering good resistance to corrosion, it has smooth walls, and it is easy to weld. On the other hand, it has low impact resistance and it needs to be protected against cement, lime and organic acids.
