Fire hydrants

The fire hydrant, or FH, is the most widely-used water-based fire extinguishing system. It consists of embedded or surface cupboards holding a hosepipe which sprays water simply by turning a valve. Fire hydrants are inter-connected by non-galvanised steel piping. The bonds between tubes may be welded, screwed or brindled. Bonds to the cupboard valves must be affixed by means of pipe adapters. Hydraulically, they are connected directly to the mains supply, without being linked to valves or meters.
