Wedges and shims for granite

A tool used for manually cutting granite blocks. It is a piece of iron of some 8 to 15 cm long that has a flat upper face for striking, a prismatic quadrangular body, two angled lateral faces and an edge to help with penetration. Each wedge is used together with two small soft steel flange plates called shims to help the wedge's movement in the hole made when hit with the hammer. On penetration, the wedge causes rips in the cutting direction which get wider until they form an open crack.
