A steel tool with one square shaped end and at the opposite end a sharp pointed tip, fitted into a long wooden handle, which mainly serves to work stone. It is similar to the bricklayer's mattock. The stonemason uses the pick to remove large irregularities when squaring the blocks, after using the hammer which eliminates the unevenness of the edges. On occasions, it is also used to open notches in hard rocks where the wedges are fitted.
It is used for all types of stone; the only thing that changes is the shape and tempering of the points which depend on the hardness of the rock.
