Stearin or stearic acid is a white, compact, odourless, tasteless, crystalline and slippery to touch solid. It melts at 60ºC-65ºC, is insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol, ether, chloroform or benzole and is used as a remover which helps with the bonding of the filler metal when welding and in candles to avoid any deformities when setting.
