Slate assembly and adjustment

This consists in positioning courses of slate so that the upper course covers the lower one by a half or two thirds. The row joints should also coincide with the centres of the previous and next row of slate. This avoids water penetrating between the joints of the same row and adjoining rows respectively. This process should start at the eave of the roof and rise in rows to the ridge.
