Round mallet

A small sledgehammer used for hitting chisels and points. Made up of a metallic body of steel or iron and a hard wooden handle made from ash, oak, etc. The round mallet, also known as the spherical mallet, ?Portuguese' or ?Galician', is of a cylindrical shape that narrows towards the handle. It allows hard hits and thuds to be made and is therefore used especially on hard stone with points or a mason's chisel.
