Quicklime

A binding material found once the limestone is decomposed by baking it at a temperature of around 900ºC. It is made up of calcium oxide (CaO), is white or grey/white in colour, looks like earth and is amorphous and very avid in water. When mixed with water it gives off a large amount of energy in the form of heat and increases in volume, transforming into slaked lime (calcium hydroxide Ca OH2), like this the material is then able to slowly harden in the open air and is therefore used as a binder.
