Generally, the preparation of the mould for casting is done by covering in soap, varnishing and applying oil to fill any pores that the mould may have, so that the gypsum plaster does not enter them and the piece not grip the mould, easing the demoulding operations. Some experts simply prefer to fill the pores of the mould with water, draining it off an instant before proceeding with casting.
