Hydraulic lime

It a somewhat dull powdered lime that apart from setting and hardening in the open air, also does so under water. It is found in limestone with a high proportion of clay (up to 20%) which is baked at a high temperature. It is used for mortar and for the manufacture of bricks although as it has a very low mechanical resistance it is being superseded by cement.
