Gouges

A tool that is similar to the ordinary cross cut chisel but with a curved and cast foil. Used by carpenters to work wood. It consists of a half-round shaped steel bar that comes in different thicknesses, thus producing different types of cut. This bar is fitted to a wooden handle. Gouges are defined as inclined, straight, curved or spooned, thus describing the shape of the foil. Each type of gouge has numerous variations on the width of the cut. The combination of the shape and width of the foil in a transversal cut, and the longitudinal shape of the foil, make this a tool designed for specific jobs.
