Arch

A curved surface covering the space between two walls, pillars or columns, made on site from stone, brick, cement or wood. Various types can be seen depending on the outline and guideline between them, the most common types being: - Barrel Vault: it is caused by offsetting a Roman arch along the centre line length. - Groined Vault: caused by the perpendicular crossover of two Roman arches. - Cross-ribbed Vault: made up of diagonally crossing arches also called ?ribbed'. - Lobbed Vault: a spherical shape with the four vertical and perpendicular planes being intercut.
