Thermal bridge

The area of thermal envelope of a building where a variation of the construction uniformity is shown, either because of the thickness of the enclosure or the employed materials, because of the complete or partial penetration of constructive elements with different conductivity, because of the difference between the external and internal area of the element, etc… which imply a reduction of thermal resistance regarding the rest of the enclosure. Thermal bridges are sensible parts of buildings where the production of condensation is likelihood. The most common thermal bridges are: pillars integrated in the enclosure of facades, contour of voids and skylights; shutter boxes, forged forefronts in facades; union of coverings with facades; union of facades with enclosures in contact with the terrain; union of the facade with slab or sill; union of the facade with diaphragm or slurry wall; meetings between corbels and facades.
