(Thixotropic) slurries

When the vertical drilling material lacks sufficient consistency for its walls to be kept stable, these are stabilised by casing or being supported by thixotropic slurries. These slurries are fluid mixtures that form a waterproof film (cake or crust) on the wall when the hole is filled, exceeding the pressure inside when the ground pushes against the walls. As slurries are contaminated when they absorb the materials present in the ground and in debris, for their reuse and to keep their properties, they need to be purified by filtering, decanting, homogenising and adding chemicals.
