Cut-off walls

These, like sheet piles, are flexible retaining structures that directly receive the pressure from the ground, supporting this with embedded footing and eventual anchoring or bracing near their head. They can be on-site or in prefabricated panels; either a continuous type (reinforced or pre-stressed concrete panels and tangent or secant piles) or discontinuous (of separate piles and micro-piles with ties at the head). The advantage of concrete cut-off walls is that they can embed in firm ground or rock, excavating with rock bits or hydrocutters where the sheet piles' drive finds bigger difficulties.
