These are on-site tests that consist in penetrating the ground with a normal size penetration cone using a set force of impact or controlled static pressure, distinguishing between two types: the dynamic ones as the SPT and the Borros, and the static ones as the Dutch type. They provide an indirect ground resistance measurement using empirical correlation (with similar grounds' data knowledge), for example regarding pile driving or sheet piles or to identify the deep foundations' sinking load. Gravel, boulders or cemented strata can distort the results and should be detected.
