Track width

This is the type of track's most defining parameter that consequently influences the rolling stock that can use it and other network's connections. It is the minimum distance between the interior lateral faces of the two rail's heads surfaces and is measured 14 mm below the tread of the rail. In Spain, the normal track width is 1.668 mm and the International width of 1.435 mm is used for the high-speed track (established at the Berne conference). The Feve (narrow track railway, a network established in the north of Spain) uses a track width of 1.006 mm.
