Catenary

This is a group of conductor cables from which the engine gets its electrical energy by means of pantographs. Basically, the catenary is made from a carrying cable and one or two contact wires joined together by a suspension rod; the carrying cable is held by cantilever or gantry type suspension elements which are supported on metallic or cement posts aligned in parallel to the track. They are called this because they adopt a catenary shape that is typical of a flexible cable which equally hangs from its ends.
