Chases

In construction work, it is very common to open chases, thereby facilitating embedding of installations, by means of digging a channel (which must have a maximum depth of 1/5 the thickness of the wall). The section relating to resistance and stability is reduced, and it is therefore important to avoid chases in walls, especially if they are load-bearing. It is essential to recall that vertical chases influence a lot less in the loss of resistance and stability of walls, but that on the other hand, horizontal chases are dangerous because they affect the whole wall. They must be authorised by management.
