A device used for weighing heavy loads.
There are two modes: static and dynamic.
- Static: determines the weight of a vehicle by simultaneously measuring all the gravitational forces exerted by the wheels when the vehicle is stationary. It is normally used for weighing the following loads: aggregates, gravel, graded aggregates and bituminous material. It does not directly reflect the forces that act on the road.
- Dynamic: used so that traffic flow is not affected whilst vehicles are being weighed. It takes into account the fact that dynamic forces acting on surfaces can vary significantly. It is not as precise as the static version.
