These are supports of the structures that distribute and transmit pressures on the soil which are compatible with its resistance and deformability. The form and dimensions of these supports depend on the loads and nature of the ground. Three types of foundations are highlighted:
- Direct foundations: distribute the loads of the structure in a horizontal support plane.
- Surface foundations: located at a shallow depth under the surface.
- Deep foundations: transmit the loads of the structure mainly vertically.
