Loss of charge

This is the loss of energy experienced by a fluid due to the friction produced on the conduit walls and on passing through different stages. It can be caused by changes in direction, narrowings, widenings and elements attached to piping, such as valves and other accessories, which hinder the flow of fluids. Loss of charge is expressed in water column metres or w.c.m. and depends on the velocity of the water and the diameter, the interior unevenness and the length of the piping. The loss of pressure experienced by the liquid will alter if any of these factors vary.
