Positioning wedges and splitters

Before inserting the wedges it is advisable to pour a little bit of water into the roughnecks to help cushion each strike and ease the fracturing of the block. Each wedge is used, combined with two small flange tiles that ease the movement of the wedge in the hole when struck with the hammer. The wedges are fitted with their flange tiles into the holes. To get a ready cut surface, all the wedges need to be perfectly aligned with the cutting line. The wedges are then inserted with light strikes from the mallet.
